Q

how does size impact need plant transport system?

A

water absorbed soil + light absorbed from above but both needed all over plant so needs to be transported
- large distance to travel

Q

how does metabolic demands impact need plant transport system?

A
  • cells in roots need glucose for respiration but it is made in leaves + needs waste products removed
  • ions for synthesis large mols need to go to all cells

Q

vascular bundle in stem?

A

several on outside for support of stem to prevent bending (in ring shape going all the way round)
xylem inside ( in dicot)
cambium has meristem cells (always divide)

Q

vascular bundle in roots?

A
  • central with drill like structure to enable plant to push down into root to withstand tugging from wind
  • Xylem strongest so in centre X like structure

Q

vascular bundle in leafs

A

xylem on top of phloem
midrib is main vein and gives support
branching smaller veins spread out and give support and transport to leaf
(think T shape for cross section)
