Distance/Time Graphs Flashcards
What does the gradient tell you?
The gradient at any point gives you the speed of the object
What do flat sections on the graph mean?
Flat sections are where the object has stopped
What does a steeper graph mean?
A steeper graph means the object has a fast uniform speed
(‘uniform’ means constant)
What do curves represent?
Curves represent acceleration or deceleration
What does a curve that is getting steeper indicate?
A curve getting steeper means it’s speeding up (acceleration)
What does a curve that is levelling off indicate?
A levelling off curve means it’s slowing down (deceleration)
What can you do to find the speed at a certain time if the graph is curved?
Draw a tangent to the curve at that point, then find the gradient of the tangent
