distance time graphs. Flashcards
what does a distance time graph show?
it shows how the distance of an object varies over time.
what does it mean when the line in a DTG is steep?
that the object is accelerating. the steeper the line, the faster the object.
what does a horizontal line indicate?
the object is stationary.
what does a straight line indicate?
the object is moving at a constant speed.
what does it mean if the gradient increases?
the object is accelerating (speeding up)
what does it mean if the gradient decreases?
the object is decelerating (slowing down)
what does it mean if the line is going down?
the object is moving backwards.
what is the equation linking speed, distance and time?
speed (m/s) = distance x time
define acceleration
the rate of increasing velocity.
state the equation of velocity
accelerating = change in velocity / time
what are the units of acceleration?
m/s 2 (squared)
