Distance, Displacement, Speed and velocity Flashcards
1
Q
What is distance
A
Distance is how far an object moves. Distance does not involve
direction.
Distance is a scalar quantity.
2
Q
What is displacement
A
- Vector quantity
- Measures the distance and direction in a straight line from an object’s starting point to its finishing point.
Example:If u walk 5m north then 5m south your displacement is 0m but distance is 10m
3
Q
What is speed and velocity
A
Measure of how fast your going but speed is scaler and velocity Vector
4
Q
Equation for distance travelled
A
Distance travelled(m)= Speed(m/s) x Time(s)
5
Q
Typical everyday speeds
im guessing you have to learn these
A
Walking=1.5m/s
Running=3m/s
Cyclying6m/s
Car=25m/s
Train=55m/s
Plane=250m/s
6
Q
Some formula about distance travelled
A
distance travelled = s peed × time
s = v t
distance, s, in metres, m
speed, v, in metres per second, m/s
time, t, in seconds, s
