Dissolved Substances Flashcards
1
Q
How do dissolved substances move in and out of cells?
A
They pass through the cell membrane
2
Q
What is the definition of diffusion?
A
Diffusion is the spreading of particles of gases or liquid resulting in a movement of particles
3
Q
What will effect the rate of diffusion?
A
Temperature and concentration differences
4
Q
What is concentration gradient?
A
A difference in concentration between two areas next to each other. Particles will move down the concentration gradient high to low
The larger the difference in concentration the faster the rate of diffusion.
