Dissection 1 Flashcards
What does the superficial fashia do?
Bridges the skin to the deeper structures
What two layers does the skin consist of?
The epidermis (epithelial Layer) and the dermis (underlying connective tissue)
What is the subcutaneous tissue also called?
Superficial facsia
Hypodermis
What does the subcutaneous tissue or superficial fascia contain?
Burying amount of fat and collagen and fibers that attach to the dermis and blend at a deeper level with the investing fashia
What does the term “investing fascia” describe? What is it also called?
The outermost layer of fascia surrounding skeletal muscle
Epimysium
How is the fat layer arranged in the superficial fascia?
Various sized lobules between fibrous septa that have an irregular honeycomb arrangement
Where are rather striking fibrous septa? What are they called?
In the mammary gland Coopers ligaments
Give one example where at the superficial fascia would be tightly bound to the deep fascia and one example where it is loosely bound.
Palms Penis, Eyelid
What is a mammary gland?
A modified sweat gland that grows during puberty and differentiates during pregnancy to provide nutrition for the infant
The breast is a _______________ organ.
Fibroglandular
Where does the base of the breast extended to and from?
The 2nd to the 6th rib The sternum to the mid axillary line
What muscle does The face of the breast overlie?
Pectoralis major
Is the base of the breast circular? Why or why not?
Because a lateral extension follows the tendon of the muscle into the axilla
What is the lateral extension of the base of the brats that extends into the axilla called?
The axillary tale
What is the base of the breast separated from the pectoralis major muscle by? What does this help with during dissection?
A space that contains loose connective tissue The organ is easily separated from the underlying muscle
What is at the apex of the breast?
The Ariola and the nipple
What are the small elevations on the Ariola?
Sebaceous glands that secrete sebum to relax the Ariola and nipple during cycling
What can these glands form and become infected?
Sebaceous cyst
What are dense connective tissue septa in the breasts called?
Suspensory or coopers ligaments
How many lobes is the body of the breast subdivided into by the coopers ligaments?
15-20
Each lobe of the breast is connected to the nipple by what?
Lactiferous ducts
Why is it difficult to see glandular tissue in the breast on an older cadaver?
The glands a trophy at menopause
When would the granular tissue be most prominent/enlarged in a woman?
When she is lactating
Where does the mammary gland receive blood supply from?
Branches of the axillary and subclavian arteries
