Displacment Reactions Flashcards
What happens when you add copper to sliver nitrate
Silver crystals formed on the piece of copper and the colourless solution turned slightly blue
Why did this happens
The copper is displacing the silver from its compound because it is more reactive than sliver
Word equation for silver nitrate + copper
Silver nitrate+ copper-> copper nitrate + silver
Word equations for displacement
Zinc+ iron sulfate-> zinc sulfate + iron
Zinc+ copper sulfate -> zinc sulfate + copper
Iron+copper sulfate -> iron sulfate + copper
Magnesium + zinc sulfate -> magnesium sulfate +zinc
Magnesium + iron sulfate -> magnesium sulfate + iron
Magnesium + copper sulfate -> magnesium sulfate + copper
Conclusion of displacement
A more reactive metal will displace a less reactive metal from its compound. This reaction is observed by colour changes or heat being involved. We call this a displacement reaction
