you can’t sense taste

pain resulting from stimuli that are normally innocuous
anesthesia dolorosa
lesions of the thalamus caused by disease are often associated with unbearable pain in part of body that is completely anesthetic
hyperacusis
ordinary sound seems much louder than usual due to facial nerve lesions that denervate the stapedius muscle
aphasia
disturbance in language function

difficulty finding words
ataxia
incoordination of movement
sensory ataxia
incoordination of movement due to impaired DC/ML system. can still use eyes to help.
cerebellar ataxia
incoordination due to cerebellar damage; blindfolding has no effect; problem arises from inability of brain to use info
astereognosis
absence of the ability to compare an image to a remembered object in order to identify is (i.e. coin in pocket)
hemiatrophy
affected side doesn’t grow normally so that body parts one one side appear to belong to smaller person
disequilibrium
inability of subject to maintain normal posture & to move efficiently; associated with falling
vertigo
disfunction in vestibular system leading to loss of orientation; feeling like we’re spinning
hypokinetic signs
impoverished movement
akinesia
major impairment initiating movements
bradykinesia
reduction in the extent and speed of movements
resting tremor
shaking palsy, resembles pin rolling
mask facies
expressionless face, infrequent blinking
lead pipe / cogwheel rigidity
