Diseases Flashcards
Chronic Granulomatious Disease
Decifiency in NADPH oxidase –> effects Respiratory burst. Lots of infections
Proteinuria
Excess loss of protein from blood stream. Leads to Edema due to a lack of onconic pressure.
Hepatic Cirrhosis
Leads to decreased protein synthesis, which leads to less onconic pressure and edema.
Congestive Heart Failure
Left side of heart can’t pump–>leads to pooling of blood in lungs which leads to pulmonary edema
DiGeorges Syndrome
Failure to develop thymus
SCID (severe Immunodeficiency syndrome)
Decifiency in IL-7–>uncommited lymphoid progenitor cells don’t become double negative.
Bare Lymphocyte Syndrome
People don’t present MHC moleucles. T-Cells are never activated
Autoimmune Polyendocrinopathy-Candidiasis-Ectodermal Dystrophy
Mutation to AIRE gene which promotes expression of self antigens for T-Cell selection
PDA - Patent Ductus Arteriosus
Congenital disorder which keeps ductus arteriosus open in newborns. Prostaglandins keep it open. NSAIDS close it up.
Cushing Syndrome
Toxicity to Glucocorticoids - buffalo hump, moon face, obestiiy, muscle wasting
Addisons Disease
Over use of Glucocorticoids - inflammation, immune suppresion, asthma
Reyes Syndrome
When you give kids aspirin. Liver toxicity, nausea, vomitting, encephalopathy.
Kawasakis Disease
Autoimmune disease where there is inflammation in medium sized blood vessels.
Treatment is Aspirin, eventhough it is contraindicated in children.
HIV
Retrovirus that infects CD4 T-cells
Kartageners Syndrome
Motile Cilia don’t move–> loss of motor proteins–>respiratory problems
