Symptom
Subjective evidence of a disease that can only be communicated by the patient
(How the patient feels)
Example: patient- “I feel feverous”
Sign
Objective evidence of disease that can be evaluated or measured
Observations
(What is actually happening)
Examples: The patient actually has a fever that was measured
Syndrome
Set of signs and symptoms that occur together as part of a disease process
Diagnosis
The identification of a disease
Differential diagnosis
An attempt to determine which of several diseases could be causing the signs and symptoms
Prognosis
The predication of the probable course and outcome of a disorder.
Acute
The condition with rapid onset, severe course and relatively short duration.
(Treatable, short term)
Chronic
Condition of long duration, could be controlled but rarely cured.
Remission
Temporary, partial or complete disappearance of the symptoms of a disease without having achieved a cure.
Disease
Condition in which one or more body parts are not functioning normally.
Eponym
A disease, structure, operation or procedure named for the person who discovered or described it first.
