Disease of Pulp and Periodontium Flashcards
1
Q
Caries end result
A
2
Q
Pulp Hyperaemia Symptoms
A
- pain lasting for seconds
- pain stimulated by hot/cold/ sweet foods
- pain resolves after stimulus removed
- caries approaching pulp but toth can be restored without treating pulp
3
Q
Acute Pulpitis Characteristics
A
- constant severe pain
- reacts to thermal
- poorly localised pain
- referral pain
- no response to analgesics
4
Q
Diagnosis of Acute Pulpitis
A
- history
- visual examination
- negative tenderness to percussion
- radiographs
- removal of restorations
5
Q
Diagnosis of Acute Apical Periodontitis
A
- easy to make
- tenderness to percussion
- tooth is non-vital
- increase in mobility
Radiographs showing
- loss of clarity of lamina dura
- radiolucent shadow -> indicate old lesion, flare up of apical granuloma
- delay in changes at apex of tooth -> widening of apical periodontal space
6
Q
Traumatic periodontitis
A
- due to parafunction, ie: clenching, grinding
Diagnosis
- check occlusion
- TTP
- normal vitality
- radiograph may show widening of periodontal space
7
Q
Treatment for Traumatic Periodontitis
A
- occlusal adjustments
- therapy for parafunction
8
Q
What is acute apical abscess?
A
- commonest pus producing infection
Possible causes
- pericoronitis
- periodontal abscess
- sialadenitis
9
Q
Organisms of Dental Abscess
A
- Polymicrobial
- anerobes
- staphylococcal lymphadenitis
- cervico-facial actinomycosis
10
Q
Acute Apical Abscess
A
- severe unremitting pain
- acute tenderness in function
- acute tenderness on percussion
- no sweling, redness/ heat
