Non infectious disease
disease that cannot be spread from one organism to another
Infectious disease
a disease that is contagious and caused by a pathogen

Diabetes, heart disease, cancer

Virus
A very simple microorganism that infects cells and may cause disease.
Pathogen
A disease producing organism
Types of pathogens
Bacteria, Fungi Viruses
Cellular pathogens
a pathogen that is made up of cells such as a tape worm, fungus or bacteruim
Non cellular pathogens
A pathogen that is not made up of cells, such as virus, prion or viriod.
Differnt ways infectious diseases can be transmitted
Sneezing, coughing, vectors, physical contact, contamintaed objects, water supply
Types of direct contact
Infectious diseases are often spread through direct contact. Such as skin contact with an infected person. Droplet spread, coughing or sneezing.
Types of indirect contact
Infectious diseases can also be spread indirectly through the air and other mechanisms. For example: Airborne transmission, contaminated objects, water supple.

Vector
an organism that carries a pathogen between other organisms without being affected by the disease the pathogen causes
