Discography Flashcards
AP View
Anterior Posterior view
Afferent
Carrying inward to a central organ or section, as nerves that conduct impulses from the periphery of the boy to the brain or spinal cord.
Algometry
The measurement of sensitiveness to pain
Allodynia
Pain that result from a non-injurious stimulus to the skin.
Analgesic
A medication that relieves pain without loss of consciousness
Asymptomatic
Exhibiting or producing no symptoms
Boolean Logic
Of or relating to a data type or variable in a programming language that can have one of two values “TRUE or FALSE”
CT Scan
(Computed Tomography) is a special type of X-Ray machine. Rather than a single X-Ray (traditional X-Ray), several beans are send simultaneously from different angles.
- Far more detailed
- Images from two-dimensional scans can be reconstructed into 3-D images.
Caudal
Towards the feet
Cephalad
Toward the head
Chemically Sensitive
Discs have pain at a pressure less than 15 PSI above open pressure
Concentric Tear
The delamination of the lamellae of the annulus fibrosus, resulting from normal aging.
Concordant Pain
Induced pain that matches the patients typical pain
Contrast
An X-Ray dye that has a chemical mixture that contains 2,000 the amount of iodine as in the total physiological body content
- Inserted into the disc to permit visualization
- used to see the details of the internal structure of the disc during a discography procedure
Dallas Grading System
A system designed to grade the severity of annular disruption on a scale of 0-5. Grade 0 is for normal discs, and Grade 5 represents a tear involving full thickness of the annulus with extra-annular leakage.
DDD
Degenerative Disc Disease
Differential PSI
the level of pressure exerted above opening pressure
Discogenic
Relating to a disorder originating in or from an intervertebral disc.
Discography
Examination o the intervertebral disc space using X-Rays after injection of the contrast media into the disc.
Disc Stimulation
Involve the attention to the response of the patient to the injection that is performed
Dynamic Pressure
PSI when during the injection of contrast
-commonly confused with differential pressure
Efficacy
Power or capacity to produce a desires effect; effectiveness
Facet Joint
A posterior sliding joint connecting vertebral levels. Restricts torsion with the disc
False Positive
A result that labels a healthy individual as diseased
False Negative
A result that labels a diseased individual as healthy
Flouroscope
A device equipped with a fluorescent screen on which the internal structures of an optically opaque object, such as the human body, may be continuously viewed as shadowy images formed by the differential transmission of X-Rays through the object
