What are the symptoms of discitis?
A
Back pain Pyrexia Rigors Sepsis Neurological features, e.g. changing lower limb neurology, if epidural abscess develops

What can cause discitis?
A
Bacteria - Staph aureus most common cause of discitis
Viral
TB
Aseptic

Q
What investigations are carried out in discitis?
A
MRI - high sensitivity
CT guided biopsy may be required to guide antimicrobial treatment
Blood cultures
Gram staining with culture

What is the management for discitis?
A
6-8weeks of IV Abx
Assess patient for endocarditis with echo
