Q

How do you test for non reducing sugars

A

Do the Benedict’s test, if negative get another smaple, add dilute hydrochloric acid and heat, this will hydrolyse the polysaccharides and disaccharides into monosaccharides and then add sodium hydrogencarbonate to neutralise it, and then redo the Benedict’s test, and if it is positive, the sample had non reducing sugars
