Disaccharide Flashcards

1
Q

Disaccharide

A

are made up of two monosaccharides

example
the glucose molecule and other glucose molecule can form a bond with each other
and this new Disaccharide called “maltose”

this galactose molecule can link to glucose molecule and this glucose molecule are in beta configuration through condensation it will form “Lactose”

we’re it form a bond between 1 glucose and and 1 fructose and the glucose molecule is an alpha glucose because the OH group of C1 and the CH2OH are pointing in the opposite direction this form a link through the condensation reaction removal water that can form Disaccharide called “sucrose”

Q

maltose

A

where the two glucose where link together by the alpha 1-4 glycosidic bond

it called alpha 1-4 glycosidic bond
because the carbon 1(glucose 1) and carbon 4 (glucose 2) involved in linking process.
and this is alpha glucose because the glucose molecules are in alpha configuration

Q

the process of linking monosaccharides with one another

A

called condensation
- were water release
the reverse reaction of this called
hydrolysis
-were it’s add water

adding water in 1-4 glycosidic bond will break the bond

Q

lactose made of

A

galactose and glucose link together by the beta 1-4 glycosidic bond

it’s called beta 1-4 glycosidic bond because the galactose and glucose are in beta configuration, also the C1(galactose) and C4 (glucose) are involved

lactose can be found in MILK
