Define impairment.
Any loss or abnormality of psychological, physiological or anatomical structure or function.
Define disability.
Any restriction or lack of ability to perform an activity in the manner or within the range considered normal for a human being i.e. an activity restricted by impairment.
Define handicap.
Disadvantage for given individual resulting from impairment or disability, that limits or prevents fulfilment of a role which is normal for that individual.
What is the function of the Equality Act 2010 ?
Legally protects people from discrimination in the workplace and wider society.
Provides legal framework to protect rights of individuals and advance equality of opportunity of all and promotes more fair, equal society.
What are 9 protected characteristics ?
Age.
Disability.

Marriage or civil partnership.

What are the 5As domains of overcoming barriers ?

What are the upstream approaches to improve dental care equality ?

What are the downstream approaches to improve dental care equality ?
Design fo regional dental care infrastructure to increase access.
Define direct discrimination.
Treating someone with protected characteristic less favourably than others.
Define indirect discrimination.
Putting rules or arrangements in place that apply to everyone but that put someone with a protected characteristic at unfair advantage.
Define harassment.
Unwanted behaviour linked to protected characteristic which violates someones dignity or creates an offensive environment for them.
Define victimisation.
Treating someone unfairly because they have complained about discrimination or harassment.

A person unable to make decision for themselves due to mental disorder or inability to communicate because of physical disability incapable of -

What is the purpose of the Adults with Incapacity Act (Scotland) 2000 ?
Protect adults 16+ who lack capacity to make some or all decisions for themselves and to support their families and carers in managing and safeguarding the individual’s welfare and finances.
What is a CTO ?
Compulsory treatment order - allows for person to be treated for their mental illness for safeguarding of the individual.
