16
Q

When is non-immersion manual cleaning used?

A

for certain equipment where items will become compromised by soaking in aqueous solution, e.g. electrical and electronic equipment.

These items should be cleaned in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions

17
Q

What instruments are manually cleaned by immersion?

A

most instruments but see manufacturers instructions

18
Q

The temperature of the water when manually cleaning is especially important when what?

A

using enzymatic detergents (follow manufacturer’s instructions)

19
Q

What is the PPE for manual washing?

A

Full Face Visor, Gown, Marigold type Gloves.

20
Q

What brushes are used for manual cleaning?

A

plastic brushes (no metal)

21
Q

What is the water temp and detergent conc for manual washing and cleaning?

A

water temp 30-35 degrees celsius

Detergent - should be a neutral enzymatic: 30ml to 8litres water

22
Q

After manual washing and cleaning, what should be done to the instruments before drying?

A

Rinse/immerse instruments in purified water ( not handpieces) after cleaning and then dry

23
Q

What should never be placed in an ultrasonic cleaner? Why?

A

handpieces

as they should not be immersed in water and the ultrasonic activity will damage the high speed turbine.

24
Q

What detergent is used in wahser disinfector?

A

Neutra (pH7) enzyme

25
Q

What tests are required for ultrasonic?

A

Carry out weekly test. Weekly test includes daily test plus cleaning efficacy test (protein test strip) and staple result along with printout into log book.

26
Q

What tests are required for washer disinfectore?

A

Carry out daily test. Fill in daily test sheet in log book and staple printout

Carry out weekly test. Weekly test includes daily test plus cleaning efficacy test (protein test strip) and staple result along with printout into log book. (Weekly Automatic Control Test)

27
Q

What are the 3 diff types of sterlisers and basic description.

A

Type B (Better) vacuum, active air removal •

Type S (Special) only use according to manufacturers instructions

Type N (Normal) non vacuum, passive air removal

28
Q

What makes something sterile? (defintion)

A

An instrument is sterile if the probability that there are viable microbes on the instrument is equal to 1 in a million
