He died in 1980.

Wells’ ‘War of the Worlds.’ In film, he left his artistically indelible mark with such films as ‘Citizen Kane’ and ‘The Magnificent Ambersons.’ He died of a heart attack in Los Angeles, California, on October 10, 1985.
