Belly side (same as anterior in humans)
Medial
Towards midline longitudinal axis
Lateral
Away from the midline
Proximal
Moving along a limb towards the torso attachment
Distal
Away from attached base
Superior
Above (towards head)
Inferior
Below
Cranial or Rostal
Towards the head (cranium)
Caudal
Tail
Superficial
Located to or on the body surface
Deep
Further beneath the body surfaces than superficial structures
Frontal
Separates anterior and posterior portions of the body
Coronal
Associated with frontal but refers to the head region
Midsagittal (median)
Passes through midline, dividing body in right and left halves
Parasagittal
Parallel to midsagittal (not on midline), right and left halves unequal
Transverse (horizontal)
Separates superior and inferior portions of the body
