Anterior
“in front of” or “the front surface of.” It usually refers to the front side of the body
Posterior
the back or direction toward the back of the body.
Superior
to the top or towards the head-end of the body.
Inferior
towards the bottom or away from the head-end of the body
Medial
toward the middle or center
Lateral
to the side of, or away from, the middle of the body.
Distal
away from or farthest from the trunk or the point or origin of a part
Proximal
toward or nearest the trunk or the point of origin of a part
Superficial
closer to the surface of the body
Deep
away from the surface or further into the body
Ventral
the front of the body
Dorsal
Relating to the back or posterior of a structure.
