Direction Of Growth Flashcards
What is negative phototropism?
Grows away from light
What is positive phototropism?
Grows towards the light
What did Darwin and son discover?
The tip of the plant is what causes it to grow towards the sun
What did boysen-jenson discover?
Chemicals in the plant move from the tip to the bottom and are responsible for the plants growth towards the sun
What did F. Went discover?
He did a chemical analysis on the plants and found Auxin
What is auxin?
A plant hormone
Where is auxin produced?
In the tip of the plant
Where does auxin move to?
Into the reign of elongation
How does light effect auxin?
Light inhibits auxin
What happens to the cells in the light (regarding auxin)
The cells that aren’t in direct sunlight grow and the cells in direct sunlight do not grow which moves the tip towards the light
What is gravitropism?
Direction of growth affected by gravity
What is positive gravitropism?
Grows towards gravity
What is negative gravitropism?
Grows against gravity
What are amyoplasts?
Starch storage cells
Where are amyoplasts found?
In the cytoplasm
