Direct Democracy Flashcards
1
Q
What is direct democracy?
A
The idea that all people should be directly involved in decision-making, unmediated as far as possible by external organisations. The people themselves make the rules for themselves: citizens govern in the forum.

Q
What was the problem with direct democracy?
A
It only seemed plausible for small states, where the people were free and fairly limited. Moreover, it did not include women or slaves. There are just too many people in modern states to consult personally in decision-making.
