a thin, plastic stick with strips of chemicals on it — is placed in the urine sample.

How does the dipstick test work for kidney stones?
A
The chemical strips change colour if certain substances are present or if their levels are above typical levels. For kidneys tones, the chemical strips may change colour in response to the presence of certain minerals which caused the formation of the kidney stones such as uric, calcium, struvite and cysteine.
