Diodes Flashcards
Drift current
Due to the motion of charge carriers due to the force exerted on them by an electric field
Diffusion current
Due to the transport of charges occuring because of non-uniform concentration of charged particles
Biasing
Process of application of external DC voltage to diode or any other semiconductor device
Large signal models
Shows how a diode behaves when a DC signal is acting on it
Clampers
Diode networks that will clamp a signal to a different DC level.
Clippers
Diode networks to clip away a portion of input signal without distorting the remaining part of the applied waveform
LEDs
Optoelectronic devices which emit a fairly narrow bandwidth of visible or invisible light when its internal diode junction is stimulated by a forward electric current/voltage.
Photodiode
Two terminal semiconductor p-n junction device having a small transparent window to allow light to strike the p-n junction and is designed to operate with reverse bias.
Varactor diode
Special diodes fabricated to be used as voltage variable capacitors
Tunnel diode
High conductivity two terminal p-n junction diode doped heavily about 1000 times higher than a conventional diode.
