How a computer processes information?
Input, storage, processing, output
Input
Devices that are used to help put information into the computer
Storage
saving of information and data
Processing
thinking that takes place when storage is being used
Output
Ways information is displayed or given to the user
Software
Programs/data used to provide the computer with instructions on what to do and how to do it
How a computer stores information?
ROM only reads
RAM reads and writes
Random Access Memory (RAM)
Used when operating programs, input new information, MUST save or you will lose your work
Read only memory (ROM)
Used to run your computer, cannot input new information, cannot delete
Power Supply
How you get electricity into the computer. Without it, the computer would not be able to turn on!
Video Card
Component used to handle the graphics that are displayed on the monitor
Sound Card
Component Used to handle the sound that is given out by the speakers
Modem
Responsible for carrying a signal from cable or phone line for the purpose of internet
Motherboard
Main circuit board in the computer. It is what allows all the components in the computer to work together
CD-Rom Drive
An optical disk reader which allows external information to enter the computer. It is read only!
Hard Drive
Location of where all your data is stored. ROM memory
Random Access Memory (RAM)
Location where all your files are stored
Central Processing Unit (CPU)
Brain of the computer. Everything that needs to happen on the computer is run through the CPU
