Digital Imaging Flashcards
What are bitmap graphics?
They are made up of lots of pixels and information about each pixel is stored in the images.
What are vector graphics?
Stores information about geometrical objects or instructions for drawing shapes - not the image itself.
Explain 3 advantages of vector.
1) Smaller memory size as vector has smaller files
2) Easier to transform vector graphics. No loss of quality when resizing.
3) Smaller files mean quicker upload and download times
What is a pixel?
A dot of light.
What can both types do?
They can be resized to suit the purpose.
Which graphic loses quality when enlarged?
Bitmap
How are the numbers of pixels on a bitmap measured?
Pixels per inch/cm
Name 3 different types of background that can be added to an image.
1) Transparent
2) White
3) Colour
How much memory do each type of background use?
1) Transparent = least amount of memory
2) White = mediocre amount of memory
3 Colour = most amount of memory
