Define AOI
An all-in-one device which is multifunctional, also known as a MFD
Define MFD
A multifunctional device, such as a smartphone, which has a camera and connects to the internet or a printer which also scans and photocopies. They are also known as AOIs.
Standalone computer
A computer not reliant on any other computers or digital devices to function; therefore it can be used independently.
What is a personal computer?
Laptops, netbooks, and static PCs
They are available in a range of sizes, levels of power and capacity
Often lightweight and portable (excusing most static PCs)
What functions do PCs offer?
Access to the internet
Sound and other media software
Integrates microphone and webcams for communicating visually and verbally
Comparable with software, such as, Microsoft Office
You can connect to other devices and share files across all your personal devices
What is a mainframe computer?
A computer which is used for processing enormous amounts of data, which even the most powerful standalone computers would be unable to do
Who use mainframe computers?
Large mainframe computers are used by very large organisations (eg amazon) and some government agencies
What is a mobile device?
A mobile device is a term given to any digital device which can be carried around easily. They are usually WiFi enables. They normally weigh less than a bag of sugar and fit into pockets and bags easily.
What are some examples of manufacturers of mobile devices?
Motorola Apple LG Huawei Microsoft Samsung
What is a server?
A server provides a service for other computers on the network. This could comprise of a series of cables which connect the server to other computers.
Why are servers used?
Servers are not only used to store data files, but also allow several people to access them at once, and store the information off the users PC so they don’t use up too much storage. Servers also allow for shared access to devices (eg. printers and scanners)
What is a cloud server?
A server which is geographically separate from the user. It is often a form of storage device.
What is an entertainment system?
Entertainment systems are multinational, comprising sound and vision. They contain large amounts of data and can quickly reduce the available capacity of a PC or mobile device.
What is a digital media server? (think entertainment system)
Entertainment systems can be operated from a central server known as a digital media server. They have become much more affordable and simple to use.
