Digetsive system Flashcards
Digestive system
The breaking down of large food molecules into smaller ones so they can be absorbed by the blood
Order of digestive system
Mouth - Salivary Glands - Oesophagus - Stomach - Liver - Pancreas - Small Intestines- Large Intestines - Rectum - Anus
Mouth
Food is chewed up and broken down
Salivary Glands
Releases Saliver
Oesophagus
Tube from mouth to stomach
Liver
Makes Bile which neutralises stomach acids and emulsifies fats
Gall Bladder
Bile is stored here once made in the liver
Stomach
Contains Acid and kills bacteria and enzymes to break protein
Pancreas
Enzymes are released from here into Small Intestines
Small Intestines
Enzymes complete breakdown of food here and nutrients E.G glucose are absorbed in blood
Large Intestines
Water is absorbed into blood
Rectum
Faeces (poo) stored here before it leaves the body
Anus
Faeces (poo) leaves the digestive system
