Clinical Signs:
- Anorexia

Esophagitis or Gastroesophageal Reflux
Clinical Signs:
- Exaggerated swallowing movements
- Increased salivation
- Restlessness
- Retching
- Anorexia
- History of chewing on foreign objects
Esophageal Obstruction
Clinical Signs:
- Anorexia
- Acute onset of vomiting
- Presence or absence of dehydration
- Presence of absence of painful abdomen
- History of dietary change, toxin ingestion, or infection –History of internal parasites
Acute Gastritis
Clinical Signs:
- Chronic vomiting
- Weight loss
- Diarrhea
- Straining to defecate, mucus in stool
Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Chronic Gastritis, Enteritis, Colitis)
Clinical Signs:
- Anemia
- Edema
- Melena
- Anorexia
- Abdominal pain
- Septicemia
Gastric ulceration
Clinical Signs:
- Weakness, collapse
- Depression
- Nausea
- Nonproductive retching
- Hypersalivation
- Abdominal pain and distension
- Increased heart rate and respiratory rates
Gastric dilation-volvulus (GDV)
Clinical Signs:
- Weight loss
- Vomiting +/- blood
- Obstruction
- Usually seen in older animals
Gastric Neoplasia
Clinical Signs:
- Diarrhea
- Presence or absence of blood
- Presence or absence of vomiting
- Weight loss
- Poor hair coat
- Listlessness
- Anorexia
Parasitical Diarrhea
Clinical Signs:
- Diarrhea, with little weight loss
- Increased frequency of defecation and decreased fecal volume
- Tenesmus
- Hematochezia
- Increased mucus
- Mild fever
Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Clinical Signs:
- Acute onset of symptoms
- Anorexia
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea or constipation
- PU or PD
- Presence/Absence of jaundice
- Melena, hematuria, or both
- Signs of CNS involvement: Depression, ataxia, dementia, blindness, seizures and coma
Drug or Toxin-Induced Liver Disease (Acute)
Clinical Signs:
- Weight loss
- Anorexia
- Weakness
- Ascites
- Jaundice
- PU or PD
Drug or Toxin-Induced Liver Disease (Chronic)
Clinical Signs:
- Petechial hemorrhages
- Lethargy
- Fever > 103*F
- Depression
- Pale Mucous membranes
- Abdominal pain
- Anorexia
- Corneal opacities “blue eye”
- Bloody diarrhea
- Hepatomegaly
Infectious Canine Hepatitis
Clinical Signs:
- Acute renal failure
- Dehydration
- Vomiting
- Fever
- Increased thirst
- Reluctance to move
- Jaundice
- Peracute shock and death
Leptospirosis
Clinical Signs:
- Anorexia
- Obesity
- Weight loss (often >25% of body weight)
- Depression
- Sporadic vomiting
- Icterus
- Mild hepatomegaly
- Presence/Absence of bleeding tendencies
Feline Hepatic Lipidosis (Idiopathic)
