What is the order of digestion?
Mouth Oesophagus Stomach Small intestine Large intestine Anus
What is the mouth used for?
Food and saliva is mixed
Teeth break food into smaller pieces
What is the oesophagus for?
It carries food to the stomach
What is the stomach for?

How does the oesophagus help digestion?
Your oesophagus pushes down the ‘bolus’ by contractions called peristalsis to your stomach.
How do the villi help with digestion?
Villi are shaped like fingers to increase surface area which increases efficiency of nutrition absorption.
How does the tongue help with digestion?
Your tongue rolls the chewed up food into a ball called ‘bolus’.
How does your gall bladder help with digestion?
Gall bladder makes bile for the small intestine to help digest lipids.
How does the pancreas help with digestion?
Enzymes (lipases, amylases and proteases) which break down lipids, carbs and proteins ar made by the pancreas
