- alimentary canal runs from mouth to anus

- esophagus
- liver- produces bile
- gall bladder- stores bile, which aids in digesting liquids
- stomach- stores and breaks down ingested foods
- pancreas- produces digestive enzymes and bicarbonate solution
- large intestine- absorbs the water and ions
- small intestine- digests carbohydrates, fats and proteins, and absorbs nutrients (duodenum, jejunum, ilium)
