Why is digested food digested more quickly when it’s in small pieces?
When food is broken down into smaller pieces it has a larger surface area for the enzymes to reach(досягати) and act on
Mechanical digestion
Carried out by teeth. They chew the food to break it up into smaller pieces
Chemical digestion
Carried out by enzymes. As we chew the salivary glands make saliva which contains an enzyme called amylase. The amylase starts to break down starch into sugar

How food is digested in the stomach
- The stomach lining(слизова оболонка) contains gastric glands(шлункові залози), which make gastric juice
2.the gastric juice contains hydrochloric acid, which kills microorganisms
- The gastric juice also contains an enzyme called pepsin, which help to digest protein
- Food is churned up(збита) by the contractions of the stomach
- Food goes to the duodenum
