Epiglottis
A flap of tissue that sits beneath your tongue that closes of the entry to your lungs
Oesophagus
Is a food pipe that directs food to the stomach
Peristalsis
A tube that moves food and fluids through each stage of the digestive process
Liver
This controls the number of glucose in the blood also makes bile
Stomach
A large muscular organ that churns and mixes food and then sends it to the small intestine in small portions
Appendix
a small projection at the begging of large intestine which protects good bacteria
Salivary Glands
Make salivar which aids in digestion and keeps your mouth moist and support your teeth
Gallbladder
Stores bile made in the liver until needed in the small intestine
pancreas
makes chemicals called enzymes that are used in the small intestine
Small intestine
Helps digest food coming from the stomach. After the food has been broken down in the SI chemicals break down into small droplets so it can go into the bloodstream
Large intestine
Undigested water passes into the large intestine to the small intestine
rectum
where faeces is stored in the last part of the large intestine
Tongue
Moulds the food broken down by the teeth into a small ball called a bolus
Teeth
Bites and chews the food. There are 4 types of teeth. Incizors, canine, premolar and molar
bile
digests fat and removes toxins
