Q

iodine

A

iodine turns blue when it is in precedes of starch. that is why, when you add saliva to one beaker, it adds amylase, a starch digesting enzyme which converts the starch into sugar. one the starch is broken down, the blue colour disappears. salivary amylase requires an alkaline medium to act. Amylase acts best in warm water which is around body temperature which shows us why our body has a certain temperature. Saliva also settled on top of the solution so that is why your mouth mixes and stirs things around so that the amylase can act more effectively on the entire solution

egg white

A

only the beaker with acid and pepsin combined had any reaction. this is because acid activates the pepsinogen so it produces pepsin which actually digests the proteins

Q

crohn’s disease and the digestive system

A

Crohn’s disease causes swelling in the digestive tract. This inflammation causes the intestine to remove its contents frequently resulting in chronic diarrhoea. This means that there are deficiencies of proteins, calories and vitamins because of poor absorption. Because this disease can effect so many different areas, the link between the digestive system corresponds directly to that particular patient’s case.

For people with crohn’s disease, instead of defending the body from harmful bacteria it’s defending the body from the helpful bacteria that aid digestion causing injuries to the intestines.
