Digestive Flashcards
Gastrin, Pepsin, Secretin, CCK
Gastrin - stimulates secretion of gastric acid. Released by pyloric atrium of stomach, duodenum, and pancreas
Pepsin- Enzyme that breaks down proteins into small peptides. Produced in the stomach
Secretin- polypeptide hormone produced in the duodenum, especially on contact with acid, that stimulates secretion of pancreatic juice.
CCK- a peptide hormone of the gastrointestinal system responsible for stimulating the digestion of fat and protein. Secreted by enteroendocrine cell sin the duodenum. Causes release of digestive enzymes and bile from pancreas and gall bladder
Purpose of hepatic portal system
It is responsible for directing blood from parts of the GI tract to the liver. Substances absorbed in the small intestine travel first to the liver for processing before continuing to the heart
Breaks of large molecules
hydrolysis
Sheet of serous membrane that holds things in place
mesentary
Vitamin B12 intrinsic factor
asd
Bile
emulsifies fat
Goblet cells
secretes the mucus to protect the lining of the intestine and helps neutralize stomach acid
Role of bacteria in colon
further digest some material, creating gas. Bacteria in the large intestine also make some important substances, such as vitamin K
Extrinsic
parasympathetic, vagus nerve is Intrinsic
Sections of small intestine (in order)
Duodenum, Jejunum, Ileum
Vomiting
emisis
Chewing
Mastication
Salivary Glands
Parotid, Submandibular, Sublingual
Pancreas
secretes digestive hormones (alpha and beta cells found in islets)
Parietal perituniumem
lines the internal surface of the abdominal wall
