What are the seven nutrients we need and eat
Water, carbohydrates, protein, fats, minerals, vitamins, fibre
Give an example of food that would contain lots of protein
meat, fish, nuts
Where are vitamins and minerals found and what do they do ?
-Found in fruits and vegetables
-Needed to maintain health
Carbohydrates (eg starch and sugar)
needed for energy and are found in bread, potatoes, rice and pasta
Proteins
needed for growth and repair, are found in meat, cheese, fish, eggs and nuts
Fats
needed for insulation and energy, found in oils, butter and red meat
Vitamins and minerals
needed to maintain health, found in fruits and vegetables
Fibre
needed to keep the intestine healthy, allowing food to move along our bowels, are found in brown bread, beans and vegetables
Water
needed to keep the water content of the blood and cells constant and maintaining a normal body temperature, found in water, drinks and in many foods
