The tongue helps chew and swallow food.

Combined with enzymes, absorbs nutrients and proteins as well as dissolves the food.

The liver processed nutrients absorbed by the small intestine, also produces bile into the small intestine.
What is the role of the salivary glands in digestion?
The salivary glands provide saliva when chewing food.
What is the role of the pancreas in digestion?
The pancreas created pancreatic juices ( enzymes ) that help digest food.
What is the role of the gallbladder in digestion?
The gallbladder stores bile
What is the role of the small intestine in digestion?
In the small intestine, nutrients is absorbed through the walls and villi. The enzymes and bile break down the substrate
What is the role of the large intestine in digestion?
The large intestine processes waste so that emptying bowls is easy
What is the role of the rectum in digestion?
The rectum synthesises various vitamins, and passes feces to the anus
What is the role of the anus in digestion?
The anus excretes feces to end digestion.
