diffusion and molecule transport Flashcards
simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion, osmosis, passive transport, active transport
what is passive transport?
molecules that move across the membrane without the use of energy, they go from an area of high to low concentration
what is simple diffusion?
substances diffusing through the phospholipid bilayer.
what is facilitated diffusion?
When molecules travel into the cell assisted by a protein.
what is osmosis?
the travel of water into plasma membrane.
what is the energy that drives active transport?
ATP, generated by the mitochondria
what is active transport?
requires the use of energy to transport substances, from low to high concentration via protein carriers or pumps.
what is endocytosis?
transport of bulk material into cell
what is the process of endocytosis?
substance pushes of membrane until membrane closes on it making vesicle.
what is exocytosis?
export of bulk material out of cell
what is the process of exocytosis?
golgi encases product and pushes into the membrane until released
