what is diffusion?
diffusion is the random movement of particles or molecules from HIGH concentration to LOW concentration.
what do molecules move around on?
they move along a concentration grid.
what do the molecules have to reach before the concentrations stay the same?
the molecules have to reach equilibrium. once this happens, the molecules will continue to move but the concentration will stay the same.
what type of concentration does diffusion go to?
high concentration to low concentration.
if the concentration on the outside vs. the inside is different, what happens?
the molecules diffuse into the cell causing it to swell.
when the water inside (is greater) than the outside what happens?
the water on the inside leaves the cell and the cell shrivels.
