DIFFUSE LIVER DISEASE Flashcards
Size of liver when enlarged
Greater than 15.5 cm
Signs of hepatomegaly
Rounding of the inferior border of the liver
Extension of the right lobe of the liver inferior to the lower pole of the right kidney
Liver length of >15.5 cm, midclavicular line
Refers to an elongated inferior tip of the right lobe of the liver, a normal variant
Reidel lobe
Most common abnormality by hepatic imaging
Fatty liver
Two most common cause of fatty liver
Alcoholic liver disease
Non alcoholic fatty liver disease related to the metabolic syndrome
A continuum of liver disease that extends from simple fatty liver through nonalacoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) to cirrhosis
Non alcoholic fatty liver disease
NASH is diagnosed by
MR
US elastography (liver fibrosis)
Liver biopsy ( inflammation and fibrosis)
Normal liver parenchyma in US
equal or slightly more echogenic than the renal cortex and spleen parenchyma
Well defined intrahepatic blood vessels and small portal triads in the liver periphery
US finding of fatty liver
- HIGHER echogenicity than the renal cortex
- loss of visualization of normal echogenic portal triads in the periphery of the liver
- Poor sound penetration with LOSS OF definition of DIAPHRAGM
Fatty liver on CT
Lower attenuation of hepatic parenchymana/less dense than the spleen on NECT
HU of fatty liver on NECT
Liver attenuation is 10H < the spleen attenuation
Liver attenuation is < 40H
Sign of FATTY LIVER on CT AND US
FLIP FLOP SIGN
Dark on NECT and bright on US
