Differentiation Of Syndromes Flashcards
- Originates in middle jiao
- connects to Lu and LI
- Governs Qi
- disperses
- descends
- Helps to create Zong qi to assist the heart to push blood to the extremities.
- governs the water passages
- opens the nose
- controls nasal mucus
- houses the corporeal soul
- and returns to earth after death
Lungs
3 Lung pattern categories
Excess Patterns
Deficiency Patterns
Either Excess or Defficiency
6 Excess Lung patterns
- Wind-cold in the Lung
- Wind-heat in the Lung
- Cold congestion in the Lung
- Phlegm-damp obstructing the Lung
- Heat congesting the Lung
- Phlegm heat in the Lung
2 Deficiency Lung Patterns
Lung Qi xu
Lung Yin xu
Excess or Deficiency Lung pattern
Lung Dryness
EPF attacking the lungs. Lungs counterflow upward (cough), fluids collect, orifices are blocked, Headache, body pain (contracts and obstructs the sweat pores- no sweating).
KS- cough, clear watery sputum, stuffy nose, headache, achy all over, no sweating
- thin white coat
- floating / tight pulse
- aversion to cold with slight fever
Wind-cold Lung
cough, and same symptoms of exterior wind-heat
tongue- red with thin yellow coat
pulse- floating and rapid
clinical manifestation- front of tongue is red, thick nasal discharge
wind-heat lungs
sudden onset of cough and difficulty breathing along with a cold pattern signs and symptoms in the lungs.
key symptom: Lung system dysfunctions (not nourishing- cough, scanty sputum, along with dryness of fluids pattern)
tongue: Pale with white coat
pulse: slow to moderate.
CM: white watery sputum, cold body, limbs, dyspnoea (short of breath)
Cold Pathogen congesting the lung (no wind or damp)
Spleen qi xu or chronic cough damaging the lung or a result of wind-cold-damp PF invading the Lung
MOSTLY CHRONIC DISEASE BUT CAN BE ACUTE
Symptoms: cough with profuse white sticky sputum, easy to expectorate (phlegm in the throat, chest oppression, and other damp signs like heaviness, wheezing, nausea).
Pale tongue with greasy coat
slippery (or soggy)
Phlegm-Damp obstructing the Lung (phlegm-damp in the lungs)
No wind or damp at this point. usually originally caused by wind-heat or wind-cold pathogen invading and transforming into heat and congesting the lung.
Symptoms: symptoms of interior excess heat plus symptoms of lung problems. Cough, labored breathing, nostrils flaring, chest pain, swollen and sore throat, fever, thirst, constipation
Red tongue with yellow coat
overflowing and rapid pulse
CM: can have scanty deep-red urine
Heat Pathogen congesting the Lung (lung-heat)
