Q

How do we get rid of the neurotransmitters?

A
  • break it down with the enzyme .
  • ach is broken down by the aceytlcholineesterase and re taken up by the presynaptic membrane by endocytosis

Q

Why are synapses unidirectional?

A
  • pre-synpatic do not have receptors
  • Receptors only on post-synaptic membrane
  • Ca2+ channels only presynaptic membrane
  • No ach vesicles on the postsynaptic neurone.

Q

What are the different types of synpases?

A
  • Instead of producing an EPSP (excitory post-synaptic potential) in the post synaptic neurone
  • this can prevent an action potential from continuing instead of generating one
  • They do this by causing hyperpolarisation in the post synaptic neurone
