Carbohydrates
> simple carbohydrates are the quickest source of energy and easily digested by the body
complex carbs are found in nearly all plants and take longer for the body to digest
Saturated fats
> found in sweet and savoury foods
too much leads to weight gain
can lead to heart problems
Trans fats
> artificial hydrogenated fats found in meat and dairy
lead to high levels of blood cholesterol heart disease and diabetes
unsaturated fats are important - cus they’re a major energy source for low intensity exercise
Proteins
> combination of several amino acids
important for muscle growth and repair
make hormones enzymes and haemoglobin
Fibre
> bread, pasta, nuts seeds
slows down the time taken to digest food
slower more sustained release of energy
