What causes obesity?
Obesity is caused when we consume more energy than our body requires. If this is not used up through activity it is stored in the body as fat. People who store up too much body fat are know as being overweight / obese.
What is coronary heart disease?
Coronary heart disease is when the coronary arteries (arteries that supply the heart with oxygen) become narrow, caused by a build up of fatty materials in their walls.
What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a persons blood sugar level to become too high. There are two main types:
Type 1 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes
What is anaemia?
A lack of iron in the blood can lead to iron deficiency anaemia.
What is Osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis is a condition where bones lose strength and are more likely to break. It occurs due to the natural ageing process. This results in a decrease in bone density.
What would the symptoms be if someone had obesity?
Mental health issues (low self esteem)
Certain cancers, breast, ovarian, colon.
Infertility
Joint problems
Type 2 diabetes
Coronary heart disease
Liver disease
Sleep apnoea
High blood pressure
What are the symptoms of coronary heart disease?
Chest pain (angina), shortness of breath, paint throughout the body, feeling faint, feeling sick (nausea)
What are the symptoms of diabetes?
Peeing more than usual, feeling thirsty all the time, feeling tired, weight loss, blurred vision, cuts or wounds taking longer to heal.
