The play opens in November 1945 indicating

It is implied that they are helping others who are persecuted.

However, it is ironic that Mrs. Van Daan was angry with Anne for spilling milk on her fur coat.
“I’m not afraid that anyone is going to walk all over you, Anne. I’m afraid for other people, that you’ll walk on them.”
Mrs.Frank is worried about Anne
even though Mrs. Frank and Mr. Van Daan object to having Mr. Dussel join the Annex.
Mr. Frank is willing to make sacrifices in order to save others
Anne’s reaction to her nightmare demonstrates
foreshadowing.
There is so little that we parents can do to help our children. We can only try to set a good example.

It is important for the characters in the play to celebrate Hanukkah in the secret Annex because
it gives them a chance to unite in prayer and remember their faith.
Anne gives Hanukkah presents to everyone

We hear two soldiers singing ‘Lili Marlene.’ A girl’s high giggle is heard coming closer and then fading in the distance.” The mood of this scene contrasts the general feelings of the characters who are in hiding because
the outside scene shows happiness and fun.
The significance that we hear the soldiers and a girl’s giggling outside is
they are happy outside while the people in the annex are inside having nightmares.
Anne’s reaction to her nightmare of being taken away demonstrates
foreshadowing of what will become of them.
The manner in which the group sings the Hanukkah song at the end of Scene 5 displays
the characters being hopeful
In the crisis following the lampshade, Mr. Frank’s actions can best be described as
him being the most logical thinker.
