Passenger Brief (Canopy, Seats/Seat Belts / Fire Extinguisher / PIC Authority / Positive Exchange / Emergency Procedures / Traffic/Sterile Cockpit / Vents & Heat)
Seatbelts - fastened Avionics Master - Off Circuite Breakers - Check in Throttle - idle/closed Prop - full fwd Mixture - idle/cutoff Electric Master - On Rudder Pedals - Adjusted G1000 - powering on check GPS Database - Current /Check MFD - Engine INstruments Fuel Quantity - Reset/adjust Fuel Selector - fullest tank Strobes & Position Lights
Normal Engine Start
Fuel Pump - On/Note Sound Throttle - full open (spray) Throttle - Half Open Mixture - Rich (3-5 seconds) Fuel Flow - 3-5 GPH Mixture - IDLE/CUTOFF Throttle - 1/4 open Ignition - Start Mixture - Rich (when engine fires) Throttle - 1000-1200 RPM Oil Pressure - Green within 15 sec (if not shutdown engine) Amps/Volts - Check Fuel Pressure - Check Fuel Pump - Off Fuel Pressure - Check Mixture - Slightly Lean
HOT Engine Start
Fuel Pump - On (note sound) Fuel Pump - Off Throttle - 3/4 open Mixture - Idle/Cutoff Ignition - Start Mixture - Rich (when engine fires) Throttle - 1000-1200 RPM Oil Pressure - Green within 15 sec (if not shutdown engine) Amps/Volts - Check Fuel Pressure - Check Mixture - Slightly Lean
After Start
Avionics Master - On Headsets - On/Test Annunciator Panel - Check Circuit Breakers - Check In ELT - Armed CO sensor - Test ATIS/AWOS - Received Altimeters - Set Flight Instruments - Check Autopilot - Test Electric Tim - Test / Set T/O Comm/Nav Radios - Set Clearance - Obtained Transponder - Set Code / Alt Mode Flight Plan / Navigation - Set
Test Autopilot
- Select Ap button, confirm ROL mode
- Bug heading, and select HDG button, confirm HDG mode
- Roll HDG bug from left to right, confirm FD and control stick moves in proper direction
- Select VS button, Press Nose down/ Nose up buttons, confirm FD and control stick move in proper direction
- Click the AP Disengage button on the control stick, confirm AP disengages
Taxi
Taxi Light - On Airport Diagram - Available Brakes - Check Taxi Clearance - Obtain / Brief Flight Instruments - Check (Attitude, HSI, TCI, Mag Compass)
Run-up
Oil Temperature - Minimum 100F Area - Clear Flight Controls - Free and Correct Front & Rear Canopy - Fully Closed MFD - Engine Instruments Fuel Pump - On Mixture - Full Rich Prop - Full FWD Brakes - Hold Throttle - 2000 RMP Engine Instruments - Check Prop - Cycle 3 times Magnetos (R&L) - Check (175 max RMP Drop - Max difference 50 RPM) Pitot Heat - On All Lights - On Amps/Volts - check Circuit Breakers - Check In Fuel Selector - Switch Tanks Fuel Pressure - Check Fuel Pump - Off/Check Pressure Throttle - Idle/Check Throttle - 1000 - 1200 RPM Pitot Heat - Off Lights - As Required Mixture - Lean for Taxi
Fouled Plugs
Maintain 2000 RPM, ignition to Both
Elect affect magneto & gradually reduce mixture
Confirm rise in EGT (Max 1600 F) and
CHT (Max 400)
Run engine for 1-2 minutes to remove carbon build up
Return mixture to Full and confirm drop in CHT/EGT
Return ignition to Both and repeat check
Pre-Takeoff Brief
Engine failure or abnormality prior to rotations:
- Abort Takeoff. Throttles immediately closed
- Break as Required - stop straight ahead
If not enough runway remains for a complete stop:
- Mixture to Cutoff
- Fuel selectors, ignition, electric master off
- maintain directional control, avoid obstacles
Engine failure after rotation and enough runway remains for a complete stop
- Maintain Directional control
- throttles immediately closed
- land straight ahead, brake as required
Engine failure after rotation, decision made to continue:
- Pitch for best glide (73 KTS)
- field selector rotate off
- mixture idle cutoff
- ignition off
- flaps adjusted
- electric master off
- land at lowest possible airspeed, straight ahead, and avoid obstacles
Before Take-Off
Comms - Set Tower & Departure Navs - course set CDI - GPS/VLOC as required Initial Altitude/Hdg - Set Transponder - Code/Alt Mode Flight Instruments - Check Engine Instruments - Check Pitot Heat - as required Flaps - Select T/O Prop - Full FWD Trim - T/O Seat Belts - Secure Front/Rear Canopy - Secure Windows - Closed
Before Take Off - Final Items
Fuel Pump - ON
Mixture - Full Rich
Landing Light - ON
Time - Noted
(Flaps set to Cruise out of safe altitude and clear of obstacles)
After Take-Off
Power - 24" / 2300 RPM Set Flaps - Cruise Engine Instruments - Check Climb - 90 KTS Autopilot - As Required
