What are the two methods of kidney dialysis?
How do they each work?
Hemodyalisis- blood from patient goes through dialyzer and is filtered and put back out to patients body
Peritoneal dialysis- fresh dialysate put into abdominal cavity
What are the pros and cons of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis?
Hemodialysis- 3-4hrs 3x a week, strict dietary constraints, needs atriovenous fistula
Peritoneal- only at home but 7x days a week, less constraints for food and water, easy to travel with, chance of infection
What are the factors to consider when thinking kidney donation?
Family history of KD
Age
Comorbidities
Kidney match
Future pregnancy
Financial stability
What are post transplant surgery recommendations?
What food should be avoided?
What medications/drugs should be avoided?
What complications need to be screened for?
No raw eggs, raw meat, undercooked fish
NSAIDS, no recreational drugs, no live vaccines
No Excess alcohol no smoking
Screen for cancer, Diabetes, psychiatric disorders
