Diagnostics 2 Exam 2 Flashcards
What is acoustic immitance ?
The flow of sound
What is acoustic impedance ?
The opposition to energy flow
What is acoustic admittance?
The ease of energy flow
How is a tympanogram derived? What is the premise underlying tympanometry?
Tympanograms plot admittance changes as pressure changes.
The premise underlying is that admittance is greatest when the ear canal pressure matches the middle ear pressure.
What are the norms for static admittance?
(Ytm) 0.3-1.7 ml
What are the norms for tympamometric peak pressure?
-100 to +50 ml
what are the norms for ear canal volume ?
0.9 - 2.0 ml
what are the norms for tympanogram width?
(TW) 50-115 daPa
what does static admittance measure?
the stiffness or floppiness of the ossicular chain/middle ear system.
what does tympanometric peak pressure measure?
focuses on the point where the middle ear system is not operating most efficiently (this is affected by the eustachian tube not funtioning)
