What are some imaging studies?

What is a HIDA Scan?
A HIDA scan is an imaging procedure that helps track the production and flow of bile from your liver to your small intestine.
Define cathartic.
Agent that stimulates bowel evacuation; usually rapid in effect and producing a watery stool.
Define Colonoscopy and any additional info.
To visualize colon and obtain specimens. NPO 6-8 hrs prior. Bowel cleansing. Patient is sedated.
Define Sigmoidoscopy & any additional info.
Visualizes rectum and sigmoid colon. Enema until colon is clear may be ordered on morning of test. Sedation is optional. Observe for bleeding after.

Ostomy Care:
Asses- stoma color every shift, bowel function, bowel sounds, distinction, tenderness, and clean with water, cover with ointment or paste
